11/29/2005 Quick Observing Session

Just had a quick observing session this evening. It's cold out - 42F - but I guess I need to get used to that for a while.

Deepsky was not posting the log so here is the list of objects observed:

-Polaris (for alignment)
-Capella
-M38 "Starfish" open cluster
-NGC 1907 a smaller open cluster near M38
-M36 "Pinwheel" open cluster
-Struve 737 double star in M36
-M37 "Salt and Pepper" open cluster

The alignment seems to be working fairly well. The Dec knob sure needs to be cranked down though. I'm wondering if the scope will maintain itself when I put on a heavy camera on the back end?

Meade actually called me out of the blue (no pun intended!) today to see how I liked the scope. Told them about the wedge knob coming loose and they offered to send me a new one right away! I passed - the loctite seems to be working fine.
