01/18/2007 Another Open Cluster
Here's another open cluster image that I took a couple of nights ago. Click here to see a larger version of the image. The object is M67, or NGC 2682, and is located in the constellation Cancer.
I took this image with the refractor during one of the coldest nights I can remember in Tucson. It's been very cold lately, but no snow down here in the valley. We did take a family trip up to Mount Lemmon to play in the snow on Monday afternoon (it was a holiday), but the snow level was abover 2000 meters and I'm only at about 790 here.
M67 is an old open cluster with a lot of colorful red giants. It needs a widefield eyepiece and is thick enough to really see a lot of stars.
