11/27/2005 Carpe Noctum

Tucson's finally getting some cold temps. It's below 40 degrees tonight. After setting up the Christmas stuff with the family I decided to spend a little while in the dome. My main goal for the session was to work on the wedge alignment. This scope is really too heavy for the wedge- in fact on my first attempt, the hand tightener on the altitude adjustment came loose because it simply could not handle the force of the scope when trying to raise it up. So yesterday I applied some loctite and that seems to have worked. I've got it all aligned and tightened down now so I sure hope this setup will stay in place from night to night. The old setup seemed to randomly change which frustrated me a lot. I'd rather be observing than messing with alignment, although I guess it goes with the hobby.
Anyway after aligning on Polaris and Capella, I'm set to go for a little while. Gotta work tomorrow so it will be a short run.
