01/16/2006 Observation of Jupiter

Woke up and could not sleep so decided to get out and see the King of Planets. Ganymede, Europa, and Io were all near the planet, Callisto farther away. The North and South Equatorial belts were easily visible, polar caps and other bands appeared as dark shadings at top and bottom. The Great Red Spot was also easily discerned (although it's rather faint, more like a light colored oval in the belt).

The image was jumpy - seeing not so good, we've been having poor wx lately and humidity is high - but I decided to take some LPI images anyway. Here is the result of Meade's auto comine for 10 0.031 seond images. Otherwise the image is unprocessed.
