Jupiter is near opposition again, and although I've been busy with a CCD project I decided it was time to do some Jupiter observing. Visually, I was easily able to see some swirls near the equatorial belts; but the polar belts were sort of muddy. This seemed strange to me because normally when seeing allows swirl details near the middle, the whole planet is fairly well resolved.
Anyway I pulled out the old Meade LPI and put it to work taking very short images of Jupiter. The picture above is a stack of about 50 of those images, with a bit of processing in Registax and Photoshop. I probably could pull out more detail and sharpen it up a bit, plus fix the washed-out areas, but this was a good quick start.
