Saturday night was almost as good as they come for star party nights. The TAAA Astrophotography special interest group held a small star party at Steve's house, this picture shows a few of us setting up before dark. Steve has a nice place South of Tucson so it gets fairly dark - the Milky Way was very prominent and the sky quality meter was reading around 21 before moonrise.
The weather was really nice - warm enough to wear shorts all night, hardly any wind, clear steady skies. The moon came up around 1 a.m. I took a bunch of images, starting out with the Leo Triplet, then the Snake Nebula, and finally the Trifid. I might post them once I've had time to do the processing work.
Before the star party we all got together for dinner at an Italian restaurant, I was stuffed.
Unfortunately a pack rat made his home in my friend Larry's truck and although he didn't do any permanent damage, he did get caught in the belt when Larry started up the car, which caused the untimely demise of the packrat and also made the belt slip off. So before heading home we had a bit of car repair to do.
I'm glad we had a chance to enjoy a nice evening under the stars before monsoons hit, which may be soon.
