Astronomy has always been driven forward by technology. We live in a wonderous time - there are so many little technological gadgets to enhance our astronomical pursuits.
The moon tonight was just past full so I decided to try to catch up with some of the "administrative" responsibilities that go along with operating high-tech equipment. Although the vendors market that it will all be easy, there's really a lot of stuff that needs to be learned and work to be done if the equipment is going to be fully taken advantage of.
Meade released an update to the Autostar so I downloaded that today. Of course that wipes out all the drive training, pec tables, etc., but that's o.k. because I wanted to clear it out and start from scratch anyway. So I spent a couple of hours working on the "smart drive" training (it takes quite a while since my dome is manual).
I had hoped to do a lot more but by 1 a.m. my energy level was low so I called it quits.
I think I have to admit that for me, the technology stuff provides an additional level of fun in the hobby. Even when it's not always working correctly.
