Well I didn't expect to observe tonight but here I am in the dome, it's 2 a.m. and I've been at it since 9:30 last night. I'm working on the RCX's periodic error correction and also trying to figure out the optimal settings for autoguiding. Both of these are critical processes and both are turning out to be a major challenge. A few people have complained loudly on the reflectors about similar issues and while I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet, I am frustrated at the difficulty in getting things to work well. Basically if I can get them worked out, my ccd imaging will be much better. I've been able to make some significant improvements tonight but still need to get things better.
So today is the Summer Solstice. I sure can tell it's summer here - the temp reached 114F today and it's still around 80 right now. Since the dome isn't air conditioned, it gets rather warm observing in here on a summer evening. Not to mention the ccd won't cool nearly as much.
